Hold Them in the Highest Regard
It takes a community to raise our students – the family, the school and the church.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, Paul instructs the Christians in Thessalonica to “acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.” This is something Portland Christian also practices and teaches our students.
Every year, PCS ECE & Elementary students and staff puts together a Friday chapel that includes breakfast for the pastors, a presentation by the school superintendent and principals followed by performances by the students.
More than 40 pastors and youth leaders gathered on Friday, October 25, 2024 at the preschool and elementary campus. They were invited by PC students who attend their churches. At least 400 PC students (from preschool & elementary) entertained the pastors with performances of song and readings.
Special visitors that day also included the high school chapel band! They came and led our students and pastors in a time of two songs. It was wonderful for the students to sing to live music.
George Espinoza pastor of Mill Park Baptist Church and is also a teacher in the high school, shares, “I really enjoyed seeing how much the kids put into their projects and their parts and projects. I also admire PC’s commitment to pastors. This type of event shows the students the importance of ministry work, and helps the kids keep an open mind toward that kind of work. Afterward, my own kid said he wanted to be a pastor and it is the first time he has said anything like that.”
