Senior Earns High Marks for Original One-Act Play

Senior Melody Singleterry recently submitted her original one-act play, Escape Room, to the Oregon Thespian State Playwriting Competition. Escape Room is a dystopian thriller in which a group of kids find themselves trapped in an escape room, forced to rely on their wits to solve the puzzles before they are eliminated from the game.

Though Melody had only written short scenes before, this was the first time one of her works had been performed on stage. The PCS Drama Department brought Escape Room to life in during their fall 2024 production, an experience Melody found both exciting and rewarding. “It was a lot of fun to see my friends and castmates perform my play,” she shared.

Her hard work paid off with an “Excellent” rating—the second-highest distinction a student can receive in the competition. While her play was not selected for performance at the State Thespian Festival, she earned high marks and proudly represented our school.

As she prepares to graduate, Melody looks forward to attending George Fox University in the fall, where she hopes to continue her involvement in theater.

Congratulations, Melody!
