A Private Christian High School Where Students Flourish

Discovering Peace and Purpose at Portland Christian Schools | Grades 9-12

Do you feel like your teen would benefit from more quality academics, athletics, and extracurriculars—and opportunities for spiritual growth?

Have you tried other schools—even waited it out to see if things would change—but you’re not finding what you need?

The Sherman family, and so many others, have found peace and purpose here at Portland Christian Schools. Their oldest, Kai, started attending PCHS as a freshman.

“He came so alive that first year in school, and he would come home every day and just sit around the dinner table talking about school, and about God and science, and God and math. And he was just incredibly excited about school.”

So excited, in fact, that he offered to find a job to help his parents with tuition and encouraged his younger sister to join him.

Ready to see how your family can thrive at PCHS, too?

The best way to describe our rigorous curriculum is personalized. We meet with your student one-on-one to hear what they want their future to look like, and we work with them to choose an academic track that will get them there.

Specialized Electives and Clubs

High school is the perfect time for your student to explore their interests, so we offer everything from a state-championship choir and a top-tier theater program to classes like 3D computer-aided design and more than 20 AP and advanced classes. Plus, we have clubs for esports, chess, ping pong, thespians, and more.

Outstanding Facilities

Turf Soccer Field and Futsal Courts
Maker’s Space with 3D Printer
Modern Student Lounge
Art Studio and Ceramics Lab

Strong Athletics

Your student-athlete can choose from a variety of sports throughout the year. PCHS teams have a long legacy of winning championships. In fact, in the 2023-24 school year, the girls’ volleyball team won state; boys’ basketball placed second; and the track and field team brought home eleven medals.

Invested Teachers

All of our teachers are highly qualified, and more than 60% have advanced degrees. They care deeply about each student’s success. Tutoring is available after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays because our teachers want your teen to have the best chance to succeed.

“Looking back at my time in high school,

I realize the best thing about the teachers at Portland Christian is that if I was struggling they went out of their way to help me. They taught me how to find and use tools to be successful in my learning. They cared enough to make sure I succeeded, even if it meant extra work for them.”

— Jordan Curtis, PCS Class of 2023 Computer Game Development major at Mt. Hood Community College

Thoughtful, Personalized Career and College Prep

Well over 90% of our graduates go on to colleges and universities, including Harvard University, George Washington University, Oklahoma Christian University, United States Naval Academy, Wheaton College, and the University of California. Here’s a high-level view of how we help students discern God’s calling on their lives, whether that includes college, the trades, missions, or a direct path to a career.

Eighth Grade

We meet with every family to discuss the high school path and give each student an opportunity to chart their high school coursework to see all of the opportunities available to them.

Ninth Grade

We begin by walking your teen through the basics of college and career planning. After the first semester, we meet with students to show them their transcripts and explain step-by-step how transcripts are used.

Tenth Grade

Sophomores attend a PCS-hosted college fair that draws representatives from at least 17 universities, and we partner with Portland Community College on a trade fair. All freshmen and sophomores take the PSAT.

Eleventh Grade

Every junior takes the ASVAB to help match them with potential job areas. They take the PSAT and have the opportunity to take the SAT on campus during the school day. Every junior also meets with the Dean at least once during the school year.

Twelfth Grade

Seniors continue to receive one-on-one guidance as they prepare for their future and can also take the SAT on campus during the school day. Support for scholarship applications and essay writing during the college application process is also provided.

Athletes

Athletes who have the opportunity to play sports beyond high school will often receive interest and scholarship offers from different colleges based on their sport and skill levels. Portland Christian works with our athletes to ensure they are on track to graduate, eligible for scholarships, and able to market themselves to maximize their scholarship opportunities.

All high school students have daily access to the Dean to discuss academics, schedules, and college and career planning.

“I participated in varsity sports, student council,

honor society, art honor society, scholastic art and writing awards, and was a recognized member of Mu Alpha Theta at graduation. These numerous activities prepared me by teaching me social skills, pushing me academically, and helping me learn good time management. Thanks to Portland Christian, I felt very prepared for college.”
